(Request received from Bre in Raleigh, NC) I am currently living with family and it has become a nightmare! I was forced to quit working on purpose and now I can’t get any help to go look for jobs, housing, or shelter. There are not public bus stops in this area close(3 miles). I’ve been able to locate some rental properties online that are available but I do not have security deposit or first month’s rent. I’m already behind in other bills. We are constantly being kicked out knowing we have nowhere to go because of my son’s age(13) most shelters age limit is 12. Only a few left that will allow it, however spots fill up quick. I’m trapped here with no way of actively searching for solutions to my problems. Any assistance will help. I willing to search for work everyday and also would like to go back to school or attend a training course for my current field.
Bre I recommend talking with a social worker at Wake County Human Services. They can help you make arrangements for employment training such as vocational rehab. One division in particular that you will likely be referred to is the Supportive Housing Program. They are located on Swinburne (Behind Wake Med). You may call them at 919-212-9379.
