Housing for New Hope extends transitional housing to Durham and Orange Counties
Established in 1982, Housing for New Hope assists the homeless and those on the verge of being homeless in Durham and Orange Counties. The mission of New Hope Home is to prevent and end homelessness by providing services such as housing, integrated services and healthcare.
The Path Outreach Team of Housing for New Hope makes initial contact with the homeless in Durham and Orange Counties. After a few visits, this collaboration leads to improved health, housing and introduction to other services. Representatives of the PATH program made contact with over 1200 individuals and enrolled over 200 of them in 2010 alone. Housing for New Hope also houses an Assertive Engagement Team that provides ongoing case management and clinical support to those who can’t seem to remain in mainstream treatment and those who are uninsured.
In this year, Housing for New Hope launched the Rapid Re-housing program in partnership with Durham Interfaith Hospitality Network, Urban Ministries of Durham, C.A.A.R.E. Inc and Genesis Home to help families safely and confidently transition into permanent housing. Their statistics claim that they helped 150 or more households of formerly homeless individuals establish permanent housing between 2011 – 2012. In this year, they are anticipating moving 35 individuals and 45 families to new homes, and are currently looking for donations and volunteers to make this possible.
The Presbyterian Urban Ministry administered by Housing for New Hope provides spiritual and financial support to seniors on the brink of homelessness, disabled adults and families with children. Aid was provided to over 650 households in the tune of a $100,000 to help pay for utilities, rent and medicines. Phoenix Housing is one of transitional housing offerings of Housing for New Hope, and can accommodate up to eight men. Established in 1992, the Dove House administered by Housing for New Hope provides housing for up to eight women.
