CAN-B rental aid payments for Solano County tenants
Tenants of Solano County have the chance to get help with their rent arrears, but each applicant may only get help a single time from this organization. Community Action North Bay (CAN-B) provides these rental assistance payments where necessary to help a household avoid the disastrous consequences of getting evicted from their home.
Season of Sharing
CAN-B provides rent aid through the Season of Sharing program. Those who are approved for assistance can receive the help only once. Due to a limited budget, the organization must limit the amount of aid provided so that it can assist as many new applicants as possible.
To be approved, there should be a substantial reason for why aid is being requested. What they are essentially looking for is a hardship that was created due to some crisis situation. Examples of situations could include a job loss, death in the family or serious injury. It could also include something like theft, domestic violence or a natural disaster. There are several different causes that could be approved as a trigger for aid.
Clients could be approved if they meet any of the following criteria:
- Families with minor children
- Those with disabilities
- Seniors
The Season of Sharing program can provide a single grant for rent aid. The amount given will depend on arrears and the applicant’s budget.
VETS Express
A second aid program is available only to Veterans. VETS Express is a grants program that serves Veterans who are classified as low income earners or even less. The service is available only to Veterans who live within Solano County or Napa County.
Supportive Housing
Supportive Services are available to men, women and Veterans who need help securing permanent housing. Each client is paired with a case manager who will assist with budgeting and independent living skills.
Honorably discharged male Veterans may receive up to 18 months of supportive housing along with case management necessary to foster independence. Permanent subsidies are available through the Suisun VETS program which serves male Veterans.
Disabled men who have struggled with homelessness could receive permanent housing through the Living Self-Sufficiently program. Men and women are served by the Building Better Lives program, providing 18 months of supportive housing services.
Get Help
CAN-B provides direct appointments at its Union Avenue office in Fairfield. Those who are struggling with rent and who will be homeless if evicted should call 707-427-1148 immediately to talk with a case manager about aid programs. The earlier the call is made the more options that can be available.
