Can PPEP help with rent and utilities?

When you’re short on your rent, Portable Practical Education Preparation Inc (PPEP) can help you through your financial emergency. Your missing rent and or utility payment could be eligible for funding by PPEP as a part of its community human services and emergency services programs.

PPEP serves tenants living in Cochise County, Greenlee County, Maricopa County, Pima County, Pinal County and Yuma County. As long as your household has experienced low income of the last 30 days and have a bona fide and documented hardship situation, then you are encouraged to contact PPEP to inquire about rent and utility assistance. The other major requirement is that you live in a rural area. Therefore if you live in one of the urban areas you may be referred to another Arizona rental assistance program.

At PPEP your case manager will work with you to determine what your immediate and long-term needs are. After an initial intake interview, you will be matched with the appropriate funding and/or counseling services, including budget counseling and job search assistance.

Many clients are able to benefit from multiple services when they first come to PPEP for assistance. You should expect to receive much more than just rental assistance.

If you have received assistance from another organization, you could still qualify for benefits. You can even receive additional funding through PPEP as long as it has been at least one year since you last received help from the agency.

The first step to getting help from the organization is to contact the main office in Tucson at 520-622-3553. By scheduling an appointment to meet with the case manager to review the details of your case, you will be able to find out if PPEP can help with rent and other immediate needs of your household.Do not assume that you do not qualify for help. In many cases caseworkers are able to provide direct referrals to the appropriate resources so that you can get the help that you need. In fact referrals are one of the specialties of PPEP, since the organization is so well-connected to so many other human services organizations throughout Arizona.
