(Request received from Tatiana in Jacksonville, Florida) My husband and I moved to jax with or three kids. The idea was to stay at my uncles for a few months. After a argument with him and another family member, we were put out and forced to get a apartment, with only my husband working. Malawi when we got our things out of a uhual storage united mice and rats infested all of our clothes mattresses and furniture. So my kids mattresses and clothes had to be thrown out. My landlord gave us until the 24th to pay, and we are about $600 short still. I have call various agencies and cannot get through the line to get any assistance.
Tatiana, your family may be a candidate for the Emergency Assistance Program through the Duval County Behavioral and Human Services Division. I cannot say if they will be able to grant you the $600 that you are looking for. The actual outcome will depend on your eligibility for rent aid and whether it will be feasible for your family to continue making that rent payment based on current income. Your social worker will be able to provide referrals also if there are additional needs following your appointment.
