Friendship CDC brings transitional housing to Charlotte

One of the fastest growing community housing programs is Friendship Community Development Corporation (FCDC) located in Charlotte, NC. This organization provides housing options to lower income families who have found market rent unaffordable.

My Sister’s House Transitional Living Center was developed to provide single women with comprehensive housing and case management. The purpose is to fight homelessness among this demographic. Most programs of this type focus on women with young children, making this program somewhat unique.

Low income single women who would otherwise be homeless can benefit from this transitional housing program. They learn the many skills needed to escape homelessness and become self-sufficient.

A total of 12 apartments have been constructed by Friendship CDC for the use of qualifying families. Eligibility requirements ensure that the apartments are reserved for only those families who can most benefit from their use. Reduced rent apartments like Friendship Gardens can be an affordable alternative to higher priced apartments that are sometimes operated by slumlords.

About Friendship CDC

Friendship CDC got its start in 2001 as a project of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. The goal was to utilize existing land and resources to provide affordable housing and relief for lower income families in the Greater Charlotte community.

The organization does more than just provide transitional housing to Charlotte lower income families. They also have established a culinary program named Sweet Creations. It allows residents to gain valuable job skills in food service while simultaneously providing nutritional benefits to the residents of My Sister’s House. A thrift shop named Great Things! also provides job experience while providing operational revenues for the programs.
