I need 405.35 to stop my eviction in Richmond KY
(Request from Derrick in Richmond, Kentucky) I need 405.35 to stop my eviction.
Dear Derrick,
You have mentioned a very specific amount that you need to stop an eviction. It appears to be a doable amount assuming that you meet the eligibility requirements of at least one rental assistance program in Richmond or Madison County.
I don’t know anything about your situation or any hardship that you might be dealing with so I am unable to provide any indication about whether you are likely to qualify for benefits. I recommend that you contact one or more of the following organizations to see if they are able to provide some assistance for your situation.
Kentucky River Foothills Development Council
You mentioned that you are facing an eviction. If the eviction is imminent, then you may be able to receive some assistance through HUD-approved Kentucky River Foothills Development Council.
This nonprofit organization provides cash assistance to some clients as a part of its Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program. Since you are close to an eviction, this program may be a possible match for your current needs.
You may meet with one of the four case managers at their Spangler Drive office. Call 859-624-2046 to set up an appointment. Please let them know if you have already received an eviction notice as this can be used to make your case a top priority.
Berea United for Utility and Rent Relief
Another local organization that may be able to help is Berea United for Utility and Rent Relief (BUURR). BUURR could be a source for rental assistance as long as you have not previously received cash assistance from the charity within the past year.
Calling 859-985-1903 can allow you to set an appointment with a case manager at their Chestnut Street office in Berea. This program may be able to provide you with the aid you need.
K-TAP
Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (K-TAP) is another possible solution to your housing assistance needs. This program can actually assist with rent for up to 60 months.
The purpose of K-TAP is to help an individual or family pay rent while they are getting their life in order. Perhaps job training or classes will be enough to increase household income.
K-TAP is offered statewide, and it is available in Madison County if you qualify. Call 502-564-7050 to request information on eligibility requirements and to schedule an appointment with a case manager.
Each of these programs provides help to people in needs. I do not know if you will qualify for these grant-based assistance programs.
If your income exceeds these thresholds for aid, then you may need to look at some combination of selling assets to raise cash as well as to borrow money for your rent. Of course, borrowing money should only be considered if you can normally afford your rent but fell behind due to a temporary economic crisis.
