M-DC CAA – Self Help Community Service Center offers several services for the needy which include Senior Companion programs for the adults, assistance for the seniors through the Senior Employment programs, parenting services for the teens, development programs and case management services for the youth, Head Start child day care and education program, and a telephone reassurance for the homebound elderly. If funds are available, eligible people may have few additional financial aids to buy food or pay rent and utilities along with EHEAP and VITA services.
Programs
Child Care Providers: CCP programs provide substitute parental care for the needy children during some parts of a day by setting them up in groups. The programs also offer services like recreational and developmental activities and appropriate meals for the children, snacks for example.
Senior Community Service Employment Programs: These programs are administered by the U.S. Department of Labor and their aim is to develop workforce skills in the unemployed, especially the low-income older adults with poor employment prospects. Collaborating with the participants, the programs establish a well structured employment plan that outlines some effective steps for achieving the desired goals determined through personal interviews and assessment instruments. The programs also offer some supportive services which include transportation, counseling and several work equipments in order to assist them in participating and preparing for a permanent job.
Youth Development: Youth Development programs are responsible for providing scopes for children as well as youth to get participated in a vast range of activities including social, cultural and civic through membership in different type of clubs, scouts troops and other similar youth groups that stand to assist the youngsters grow into healthy, well educated and productive adults.
Information and Referral: The main goal of these programs is to manage and maintain information about human service resources in the community and to help people by linking them with the appropriate service providers or to provide detail and relevant information about the agencies which offer services.
Social Responsibility Programs: SRP offer individual guidance and group work projects which focus on self awareness, spiritual development, moral and ethics, cultural value, respect and empathy for each other and other qualities and social behaviors that help the participants become more responsible and caring individuals. The programs may also include some scientific topics like sexual responsibility or being a good parent.
