Housing Authority of Chelan County and City of Wenatchee announce Section 8 lottery

Residents of Chelan County who need subidized housing may be able to apply for rental assistance, but only if they submit their application from November 5-19.

The Housing Authority of Chelan County and the City of Wenatchee have announced that they are opening up the application period for Section 8 housing. Applications will be received for two weeks during November.

Applications from approved tenants will be selected through a lottery, since the number of applications normally exceeds the number of Section 8 allotments. The chances of being selected will depend on the number of applications received prior to the deadline.

The Section 8 program provides lower income Chelan County residents with subsidized rent on a permanent basis. It is designed for households who struggle to get by due to an inability to earn high enough income to pay market rent plus all of the other living costs, such as electricity and water.

While there are other rental assistance programs operated by this city-county partnership, this is the only time that applications will be accepted for the Section 8 program. This ensures that only families who are ready to meet the guidelines for Section 8 receive the time of the case managers.

Your application must be postmarked November 5 or later, but not after November 19 when the application period will end.

The Section 8 program is intended for lower income households who need help with their rent payments on a permanent basis. It is not designed for temporary emergency situations.

To qualify, your household must meet the income guidelines set forth by federal authorities. The current limit is 80% of the median household income level for Chelan County. All documentation of your current household income should be provided to make sure that you are eligible for the program.
